I was reading a list of nutrients that provide energy and B vitamins is not one of them. Can someone explain why they are put into energy drinks?
And yes, I do realize the stimulation from energy drinks is from the caffeine content.
B vitamins don't actually provide energy; they aren't a nutrient.
Essentially, what B vitamins (there are 8 of them) do is help your body break down carbohydrates into glucose (energy). They also help your body break down fats and proteins into energy.
So energy drinks may contain a lot of carbohydrates and the B vitamins are added to increase your body's use of these carbohydrates.
I take Vitamin B complex as directed by my physician. It makes a huge difference in my energy level.
This is a good basic article on B vitamins: http://www.howstuffworks.com/vitamin-b.htm
